Starting September 28, 2026, Microsoft Teams will introduce age assurance for customers who use Teams for personal use in Brazil.
Important
Teams app experience for work or school accounts remains unaffected. Teams app experience for personal use will not change in any other country or region.
What’s changing for customers in Brazil who use Teams for personal use?
Starting September 28, 2026, customers in Brazil who use Teams for personal use will have safer default settings designed to help protect children and teens.
Verify your age
We only prompt users to age-assure when they are using Teams for personal use. You can also use a proactive approach for verifying your age through your Microsoft account to continue using the full Teams experience. Your age verification information is used only to verify your age. Multiple age assurance options are available and provided by our partners. Your information is securely processed by our trusted age assurance partner and deleted after the process is completed.
Why am I being asked to verify my age?
Age assurance helps Teams create stronger protections for children and teens while ensuring age-assured adults can access the app as usual. Age verification helps Teams provide access to age-appropriate experiences, such as meeting recordings, Copilot and other AI features, and the ability to be searchable by other users on Teams.
What happens if I don’t verify my age?
You won’t be able to access age-restricted content or change default settings that are designed to protect children and teens.
If your age isn’t verified, you’ll have more limited experience when using Teams for personal use. Some features may not be available until age verification is completed, including:
Recording meetings and calls
Using Copilot and other AI features
Accessing community features
You also will not appear in the Teams Directory and other users cannot search for you by email or phone number.

Who needs to verify their age?
As part of the initial roll out, users in Brazil will be asked to verify their age to be able to access all features.
How will I know if I need to verify my age?
If age verification is required for your account, you’ll see a prompt in Teams with instructions for what to do next. You can also verify your age with your Microsoft account.
After you verify your age
After completing age verification, it may take up to 24 hours for Teams to reflect your verification status and update your account access.
During this time, some features may still appear limited.
